Making Monster Mantras 101

Here’s an introductory “How to”, which is hopefully short, sweet, and to the point. Be a Monster Maker!

Tap into your creativity. You’ve got this.

Steps

  • Go Rock Hunting! Flat smooth river, ocean rocks work great!
Smoother is easier to paint on.
Garden stores sell varieties of smooth rocks.

recommendation: grab a few rocks and do 3-4 monsters at at time! so that there isn’t waiting time between steps (unless of course you want to move slowly & maybe practice meditation in between :) )

  • Clean and dry before you start painting it!

Recommendation: paint a primer coat with acrylic.
    - priming rocks varies and depends on the rock you picked. some rocks might do best with a white or other opaque base coat.
    ___
@ Rosie’s Monster Maker studio we typically paint a background of two colors like an easter egg!

  • start in a sketchbook, use pencil to outline your rock, use white paint on the rock and start with a monster silhouette, or go to the next step & free hand it all the way!
do it however you want & have fun with it.

  • Check out our pictures and materials for some of the many many ways you can go about painting your monster! Acrylic Paint Pens are the recommended Monster painting tool. Below sections have additional resources with helpful tutorials, painting recommendations and clever tips.

Have fun painting your monster! Embrace imperfections.

  • Once the Monster side of your rock dries. Flip over your monster and add your chosen mantra, affirmation, inspiration, etc on the other side.

Recommendation: grab a sheet of paper and trace your rock, then use pencil to write the affirmation inside the rock circle on your sheet of paper, then use that as a guide for spacing and all when you paint the words on the rock.

  • Adding protective sealant to both sides of your rock is highly recommended to prolong the Monster quality details over time and with Mother Nature. Make sure to give each rock side time to fully dry!

Also, in the posted sections below we’ll provide some outside links for folks looking for more information on what to purchase!

@ Rosie’s Monster Maker Studio we use a spray-on sealer, we aren’t picky on the brand yet! Mod-Podge, Rust-Oleum have both worked well for us!

  • With the previous steps complete - you’ve got a Monster! and you have completed a “Monster Mantra”. Thanks for trying it out and hopefully you already found value in this process.

The ideas of “Monster Mantras” are evolving and forming into a Vision. Right now it’s a blurry vision - involving an inclusive & collaborative art project with rocks, monsters, kindness, love, and much more!

We’ll be posting a lot more regarding the Release of your Monster soon!!

If you would like to be a part of this project’s future, be sure to take a picture of both sides of your Monster Mantra Rocks! So it can be added to the digital aspect of this “Monster Mantras” collaborative art project.
